Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remark against the late premier Rajiv Gandhi was an “insult” to the people of the country and reflected his “frustration” in the face of imminent defeat in the Lok Sabha election.
The former UP chief minister added, “The statement by the PM indicates levels to which people can stop for the sake of clinging to power”.
Whatever political disagreements people may have, those who are martyred deserve our respect and their families deserves our empathy. Election or not, this is basic humanity.
The statement by the PM indicates levels to which people can stoop for the sake of clinging on to power.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who was a long-term ally of the BJP, said that PM Modi’s comment lacked “decorum, decency and dignity” expected from his office.
Decorum, decency and dignity are expected from those holding highest public offices like that of Prime Minister. The comments made by Mr. @narendramodi on the former PM Late Sri Rajiv Gandhi, who is no more with us are highly condemnable and reflect the meanness of the PM.

Former J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti too condemned the prime minister’s statement.
#RajivGandhi lost his life serving our country. He was a true patriot who certainly doesn’t need a certificate from those who lynch in the name of religion. Malicious attempts to malign a person who’s passed away shows political discourse has reached its nadir.
