Kanhaiya Kumar not In Bihar Election, Bihar Opposition drops Left, Tejashwi Yadav’s say Kanhaiya Kumar’s was never part of the discussions. The RJD said it would sacrifice a seat from its quota to CPI-ML (Liberation) but did not specify whether it would be Ara or Begusarai – the seat Kanhaiya Kumar wanted.
Kanhaiya Kumar who is from Begusarai has campaigned in the region. The NDA has announced that Giriraj Singh from the BJP will be fighting from the NDA in the Begusarai seat. But RJD spokesperson Manoj Jha announced that the alliance would support a CPI (ML) candidate – not a CPI one – and that person would contest from the RJD quota.
The arrangement meant that the CPI, the CPI (Marxist) and the CPI-ML (Liberation) could be forced to go together, thus splitting the anti-BJP votes. It also meant that former president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union Kanhaiya Kumar.
Another significant reason is that Begusarai – it is called the Leningrad of Bihar as it is the Ground Zero of Left politics in the state – is considered safe for a Muslim candidate. The RJD plans to field Tanvir Hasan, who lost in 2014 by a margin of 60,000 votes. In 2009, Janata Dal United candidate Monazir Hasan won this seat.
LJD leader Sharad Yadav will contest on RJD symbol from Madhepura or any constituency of his choice. And the LJD will merge with the RJD after the elections.
