DMK announced Candidate for the Lok Sabha, DMK announced Candidate for the Assembly elections, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in Tamil Nadu. Much like the AIADMK, which will have children of politicians enter the fray this time, the DMK has fielded Kadhir Anand, son of DMK treasurer Duraimurugan, former minister Arcot Veerasamy’s son Kalanidhi Veerasamy and long-time DMK leader Ponmudi’s son Gautama Sigamani.
Kanimozhi and Thamizhachi Thangapandian are the only women candidates in the DMK list, which translates to 10% of the total DMK candidates for the Lok Sabha. Interestingly, the DMK is in an alliance with the Congress, which has vowed to have a third of the Parliament made up of women through the Women’s Reservation Bill.
In addition to the Lok Sabha polls all set to take place on Thursday, April 18, bye-polls to 18 assembly seats would also take place on the same date. The results would be announced on May 23.
Earlier this month, the party completed seat-sharing talks and finalised alliances. Ten seats have been allocated to Congress and 10 seats to other partners. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam will contest from the remaining 20 seats.
