Congress leaves 7 seats for Mayawati and Akhilesh, Congress leaves seven seats for SP, BSP and RLD, allying with BSP-SP in UP. Among the seats that the Congress will not be contesting on are Mainpuri, Kannauj and the seats from where BSP chief Mayawati and RLD leaders Ajit Singh and Jayant Chaudhary will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Congress said it won’t field candidates against Mulayam Singh, Dimple Yadav and Akshay Yadav in Mainpuri, Kannauj and Firozabad. The party said it will also leave the seat from where BSP chief Mayawati contests. The seventh seat would be announced later. The SP-BSP combine had earlier decided to leave two seats vacant for Congress.

The Congress will not be contesting on seven seats in Uttar Pradesh and will instead leave those seats for the SP-BSP-RLD alliance in the state. This was announced by UPCC chief Raj Babbar at a press conference on Sunday.

The seats the Congress will skip include Mainpuri, from where Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav is contesting, Kannauj, where his daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav is expected to run, Raj Babbar said. Besides, the prospective seats of Rashtriya Lok Dal’s Ajit Singh and Jayant Chaudhary as well as Mayawati, would be on the Congress “no contest” list.
